Zachary Simmons was with his cousin Thursday night at the NBA Draft. Less than 48 hours after watching Ben Simmons get picked No. 1 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers, Zachary Simmons was killed in a hit-and-run.

Police in Hoboken, N.J., said the 21-year-old Simmons was struck by a black SUV around 3:30 a.m. ET. His mother, Monique Steele, told CBS New York the vehicle that hit her son was going at least 70 miles per hour.

"To be speeding enough to kill my child is beyond me," Steele told CBS2.

A day after seeing his cousin get drafted by the Sixers, Zachary Simmons had attended a friend's birthday party on Friday.

Ben Simmons sent a series of tweets Saturday night memorializing his cousin.
