Shaquille O'Neal watches Heat raise No. 32 to the rafters

Shaquille O'Neal wasn't with the Heat very long, but the Hall of Famer was a big part of the franchise's first NBA championship in 2006. On Thursday, the Diesel/Big Aristotle/Shaq Fu was immortalized by the franchise as it raised his uniform number to the rafters of Miami's American Airlines Arena.

Naturally, there were jokes, but not too many. O'Neal was mostly deferential to Heat president Pat Riley and owner Micky Arison.

The Heat celebrated O'Neal's time in South Florida on a night the Lakers, the franchise with which he had his most success, were in town. LA retired Shaq's No. 34 in 2013 and announced this week a statue of him will be displayed outside Staples Center.

The Magic, Shaq's first squad, have not retired the No. 32 O'Neal wore in Orlando. The Suns, Cavaliers and Celtics have zero reason to retire Nos. 32, 33 or 36 for him.
